Flood 'Alert' no longer in force for the River Rother at Robertsbridge

Editor's note: The river level peaked last night by 8.15pm, at around 9.9m and is now falling.

Saturday 30th January 2016, 18:05

The River Rother remains relatively high between Mayfield and Newenden. The peak level in all locations will be attained by 8pm on Saturday evening. Only minor flooding of farmland next to the river is expected. The forecast for the remainder of the weekend and into next week, is generally dry. It is likely this Flood Alert will be cleared on Sunday morning.

Following 18 mm of rain overnight, levels on the Rother have risen and are expected to continue to rise this morning. We expect the river to peak at Crowhurst Bridge and Robertsbridge later this morning. We will review this Flood Alert later this afternoon with the expectation that this will be removed later.

A 'Flood Alert' has been issued by the Environment Agency. River levels are forecast to rise in the Rother catchment overnight in response to a band of rain moving across the South East. This rainfall has the potential to be heavy during the early hours of Saturday morning and will clear the area by 6am on Saturday morning. River levels are expected to peak by midday at Robertsbridge on Saturday and will begin to fall throughout Saturday afternoon. Limited rainfall is forecast for the remainder of the weekend. Flooding is currently expected to be limited to low lying land nearest to the river from tomorrow morning. Property flooding is not expected at this time. We will be monitoring the situation throughout the night and update this message as the situation changes.
