21/4/2012 - BROADBAND - YOU CAN HELP IMPROVE SPEEDS FOR ROBERTSBRIDGE
BROADBAND – HELP YOURSELF and help us all - YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE...
Internet use over broadband is increasing rapidly (more users, each more active, social networking, ‘streaming’ video, and so on). Experts say that even if your broadband speed is generally adequate at present it will probably not be in a few years.
Much faster broadband is technically possible but will be commercially viable only in large towns and cities. That leaves rural us with no provision. Our County Council has therefore got a promise of money from central government, to which they plan to add some of our own money, to set up their own ESCC fast broadband service for rural East Sussex. But government has to be persuaded that there is sufficient demand to release the money. And that requires expressions of interest from rural users.
If you are a local resident or run a local business, please help to do this by completing a short on-line questionnaire. It does not commit you to anything and does not ask for your identity.
So you know what to expect, the really simple survey has five questions (in italics below, with my comments), of which Q1, Q3, and Q4 are the important ones.
Q1: How satisfied are you with the current speed of broadband, for download (what you get coming in), upload (what you send out as commands or replies), and reliability? Choose one of six pre-set responses for each aspect ranging from ‘very satisfied’ to ‘don’t know’.
IMPORTANT: treat Q1 as if it were about the degraded experience you will probably be getting in a few years if nothing is done. Yes, I know that seems ridiculous, but ESCC say that is what I should ask you to do.
Q2: If dissatisfied, why?
Q3: What do you presently pay for broadband access? Choose one from seven pre-set responses ranging from ‘Nothing’ to ‘More than £50 per month’. If you have a service bundled with other things then reply, if you can, with the internet service element alone.
Q4: Would you be prepared to pay more for a better service (than the degraded one you will be getting)? Yes/no.
Q5: Would you be willing to undertake a more detailed survey at some later date? Maybe/no.
PLEASE DO GO TO THE QUESTIONNAIRE AND FILL IT IN. It is in your (and all our) interests to do so.
